Yes, the futuristic USB connector is announced to be completed. The USB 3.0
Promoter Group has announced the completion of the USB Type-C specification.

Now no more checking which side is up, just stick that charger in and move
on. Beyond charging your smartphones, the new USB will be powerful enough
to power laptops, meaning you may only need one cord for all you devices in the future.
The new USB type-C is promises to double the data transfer speeds from 5 Gbps to 10 Gbps.
The new USB type-C plug will not directly work with existing
USB plugs (Type-A, Type-B, Micro-B, etc.). This new USB 3.1 will deliver the
power up to 100 W. The connector supports scalable power charging. It would
have 3A power delivery capacity for standard cables and 5A for connectors.
This reversible USB is similar to the reversible Lightning Cable introduced
 by Apple in 2012.
